About the Lydia
Aguebor Initiative
The Lydia Aguebor Initiative, an educational nonprofit in Houston, TX, was born from gratitude, purpose, and a commitment to give back.
After graduating from Idia College, Benin City, in December 1988, Lydia Aguebor never forgot the value of education and the opportunities it created. Decades later, she returned to support the next generation of girls pursuing the same dream by forming her own educational nonprofit organization.

Education has the power to transform lives.
What began as a personal commitment by our founder, Lydia Aguebor, to sponsor students who faced financial barriers to education has grown into a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding educational opportunity and preparing young people for lifelong success.
In 2021, Lydia established the Lydia Scholars Program at her alma mater, Idia College in Benin City, Nigeria. Since then, deserving students have received scholarships that have enabled them to continue their education and pursue their dreams.
Inspired by the impact of those scholarships, Lydia founded the Lydia Aguebor Initiative to serve underserved youth through leadership development, financial capability education, mentorship, college and career readiness, and scholarships.
Today, LAI serves communities in both the Greater Houston Area and Nigeria, connecting educational opportunity with leadership development to prepare the next generation of changemakers.
