OUR STORY
From Student To Scholarship Founder
The Lydia Aguebor Initiative was born from gratitude, purpose, and a commitment to give back.
After graduating from Idia College, Benin City, in December 1988, Lydia Aguebor never forgot the value of education and the opportunities it created. Decades later, she returned to support the next generation of girls pursuing the same dream.
Our journey

- December 2021 - Launched the Lydia Scholars Program.
- 2022 - Expanded scholarship support to more students facing financial hardship.

The Lydia Aguebor Initiative began with a simple belief: no student should lose educational opportunities because of financial hardship.
As an alumna of Idia College, Lydia Aguebor witnessed firsthand how education can transform lives. In December 2021, she began personally funding scholarships for deserving students through what became known as the Lydia Scholars Program.
Since then, she has consistently sponsored students each year, helping young women remain in school and pursue their academic goals.
Today, several former scholarship recipients are studying at the University of Benin, pursuing careers in Law, Medicine, International Studies, and Technology.
What began as one woman’s commitment to give back has grown into an initiative dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for girls and underserved students across Nigeria.
